The compact, motorized MTS25 stages feature a dual set of linear rails with continuously recirculating ball bearings on a moveable carriage. This mechanism provides smooth, low friction movement and ensures high load carrying capacity (10 lbs (4.5 kg) vertical and 25 lbs (12 kg) horizontal). The drive power is provided by a DC servo motor with a 67:1 gear head and a 1.0 mm pitch lead screw. A built-in Hall Effect encoder provides 512 counts per revolution of the motor. The linear displacement of the actuator per encoder count is given by: 512 x 67 = 34,304 encoder counts per revolution of the lead screw, whereas the linear displacement of the lead screw per encoder count is given by: 1.0 mm / 34,304 counts = 2.9 x 10-5 mm (29 nm). The addition of limit switches on the stage itself ensures controlled motion within the parameters of the unit and prevents overdriving in both directions. The stage is shipped with 1.6 ft (0.5 m) of cable. An 8 ft (2.5 m) extension cable (PAA632) is available separately. The MTS25-Z8E bundle includes the stage, together with our popular T-Cube DC Controller (TDC001) and Power Supply (TPS001). The ultra-compact DC driver cubes have been designed specifically to work with Thorlabs DC servo product lines. These new drivers are USB-interfaced, compact, single-channel motor drivers designed to operate with a variety of DC brushed motors. They contain a full embedded controller and driver circuit and can be operated with or without a PC. While compact in footprint (2.5" x 2" x 1.6"), these units include full motion control capability including velocity profile settings, limit switch handling, and "on-the-fly" changes in motor speed and direction. For more advanced operations that involve the use of different actuator configurations, these drivers allow control over the closed loop PID parameters and adjustment of settings such as leadscrew pitch and gearbox ratio. Adapter PlatesBase plates (MTS25A-Z8) are available which securely fix the stages to the work surface. The stages are also configurable in XY, XZ, and XYZ in both left- and right-handed configurations using the MTS25B-Z8 spacer plate and the MTS25C-Z8 angle brackets. For added flexibility, the MTS50-Z8 2" (50 mm) travel stages can be configured together with the MTS25-Z8 stages featured here. The MTS25CSA Cage System Adapter Plate is a universal, lockable plate that allows the MTS25-Z8 Translation Stages to be mounted easily onto the 60 mm Cage System, adding flexibility to the cage system. When the stage is fitted into the cage system, the distance from the surface of the stage to the cage center line is 23.5 mm. See the Application Options tab for more details.
