The FW102C(-EC) Stepper-Motor-Driven Filter Wheel measures Ø4" and accommodates up to six Ø1" filters up to 0.25" (6.35 mm) thick. It is designed for use in a host of automated applications including color CCD photography, fluorescence microscopy, and photometry. Each of the two ports is equipped with internal SM1 (1.035"-40) threading on both sides for our Ø1" lens tubes, and each port is surrounded by four 4-40 taps on both sides for compatibility with our 30 mm cage systems.
Manual or Remote Operation
Filters can be manually selected using the push buttons on the unit, or remotely selected using the USB 2.0 interface, BNC input, or RS-232 connection. The BNC input rotates the filter wheel when a TTL-level signal is applied. An easy-to-read display indicates the filter selection. The display intensity can be adjusted, making this filter wheel appropriate for light-sensitive environments.
As described above, the filter wheel can be easily connected to SM1-threaded optomechanics and 30 mm cage system components. Thorlabs offers an extensive selection of adapters (C-mount camera, microscope, and telescope mounts) for mating our SM1-compatible components to other thread standards. Externally SM1-threaded end caps are provided to allow one or both ports to be opened. The housing features one 8-32 tap, one M4 tap, two 1/4"-20 taps, and two M6 taps for mounting to Ø1/2" or Ø1" posts.

Programming and Remote Control
Automation of filter sequences is available through the USB 2.0 interface. A simple command language facilitates the filter selections and the retrieval of filter status. The FW102C consists of the controller, filter housing, a filter wheel, a simple-to-use GUI application program, a region-specific power cord, and six SM1RR Retaining Rings for holding the Ø1" optics in place. A firmware update to fix a rare bug is also available (see the Software tab for details).
